The cabin has a simple and straightforward design that blends soft-touch materials and some high-quality plastics. The new Ford Escape has one of the best interiors in Long Island. There are also many color options available, but you should try one of the new ones, such as Bronze Fire, Carbonized Gray, Antimatter Blue, and Iconic Silver. Up top, you will notice lower than usual roof racks which Ford designed to reduce wind resistance. Here you will get black plastic semi-circular fenders and some bits of chrome trimming on the edge of the windows. Flanking this grille will be two angular LED headlights that introduce you to the Escape's side profile. There is a massive black grille with Ford's blue oval right above it on the front end. You will now get smooth curves and an aerodynamic shape. The new Ford Escape moves away from the old boxy shape that we knew of. The hybrid powertrain has excellent efficiency returning an EPA-estimated rating of 44/37 miles-per-gallon and 100 MPGe. A 2.5-liter inline-four is paired with an electric motor to put out 200 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. The final engine provided in the new Escape is a hybrid. This engine is best suited for the new Ford Escape, especially with its excellent EPA fuel economy ratings of 23/31 miles-per-gallon. It will be generating 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The second option is a larger turbocharged inline-four available on the SEL trim with a standard AWD configuration. As such, it is very efficient, and the standard FWD Escape is rated by the EPA at 28/34 miles-per-gallon. It will provide both FWD and AWD configurations, as well as a fuel-saving cylinder deactivation system. It will be a turbocharged inline-three delivering 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The first option offered will be the standard engine available on S, SE, and SEL models. PerformanceDrivers in Nassau County will be happy to hear that the Ford Escape will offer three engine options, including a hybrid. There are also new color additions for the 2021 Ford Escape. The SEL trim will now have standard heated front seats, while a tire repair kit is standard on every model. The Technology package will now provide a hands-free foot-activated liftgate, and the Convenience package gains the power liftgate. Safety-wise, the CoPilot360 Assist Plus gains the adaptive cruise control feature. The various packages offered have added new features which were previously not available. This is only my 3rd new car in 53 years of driving and it still amazes me how what passes for standard equipment today would have been Sci-Fi in my '68 Cougar.What's New in the 2021 Ford Escape?There are no significant changes on the new Ford Escape, but the features list has been greatly reshuffled. If you're looking, the interior details of the '21 are a little more refined than the '20. It will slow you down to match the traffic, but as soon as there's no one in front of you, it's going to send you back to the preset speed in a hurry.Not a fun thing on a sharp off-ramp curve. Passengers have been very comfortable and the handling is good at posted speeds.Īdaptive cruise is great! HOWEVER, if you've never used it, be careful to turn it off before leaving the freeway. It has plenty of power to get up to freeway speed. Though the milage isn't outstanding, I've gotten 37mpg highway with the 2.0L turbo. Some car settings are only accessible through the screen. All of the features of the 360 package work as described, and the infotainment features are easy to navigate. My '21 was built toward the end of the '21 run and has the digital dash.
